Locs & Twists Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about maintenance, styling, and starting locs and twists.
Most clients benefit from retwists every 4–8 weeks depending on hair growth, texture, and desired firmness. Regular maintenance prevents constriction, reduces frizz, and preserves shape. Your stylist will recommend a schedule tailored to your locs, lifestyle, and scalp health.
Yes — loc extensions are available to add length and volume using natural hair or synthetic methods. We perform a consultation to select ideal material, size, and attachment style. Proper installation and follow-up care are essential to protect your natural hair and maintain longevity.
Starter locs typically involve sectioning, twisting or palm-rolling, and initial sealing. Sessions create the foundation; maturation takes months. We'll advise on washing, moisturizing, and retwisting schedules. Expect gentle care, regular check-ins, and personalized tips for healthy locking.
Two-strand twists are defined, interlaced styles that can be temporarily worn or allowed to mature into locs. They offer more styling flexibility and quicker installation, but require similar moisturizing and retwist habits if you intend to transition them into permanent locs.
When performed by experienced stylists, loc styling is safe and low-damage. We use tension-aware techniques, gentle products, and protective methods to avoid breakage and scalp strain. Communicate sensitivity or tension concerns so we can adjust styling and ensure hair health.
Maintain with a gentle sulfate-free shampoo, light moisturizing oils, and nighttime silk or satin protection. Avoid heavy waxes or excessive manipulation. Follow recommended wash and retwist schedules, deep-condition occasionally, and check in with your stylist for adjustments to products and technique.
